Milagros Zambrano, M.A.
Student Committee Member Milagros Zambrano, M.A. is a third year doctorate student at Alliant International University, in the Multicultural Community Psychology track. She obtained her bachelors degree in Psychology from California State University of Long Beach. Currently, she is completing an internship at Children's Institute International, Los Angeles, where she provides individual, family and group therapy to children who have been victims of sexual abuse and trauma. Milagros completed a practicum training at Healing through play in the Pico Union/ Westlake area of Los Angeles, where she provided cognitive behavioral play therapy to children and serviced primarily monolingual Spanish speaking, first generation Latino families. During her first year of graduate school, Milagros completed a clerkship at South Bay Child Guidance Center in Torrance, where she conducted initial intake assessments and psychological evaluations with children and teenagers. Aside from her school field training experiences, Milagros has worked at Bienestar Human Services in Hollywood, where she provided individual therapy to HIV/AIDS infected Latinos from different sexual orientations and facilitated a psycho-educational drop-in group for HIV infected/affected heterosexual Latinos. Milagros has also worked as a research assistant at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, where she assisted in a bilingual research study helping mothers of children who are undergoing bone marrow transplant (BMT) find healthier ways to cope with BMT stressors. Milagros' professional goals are to work with Latino Children and families in undeserved communities. She intents to become a child psychologist and to specialize in conducting culturally sensitive psychodiagnostic assessments with children. Milagros is also interested in the progressive HIV/AIDS epidemic among the Latino population. Her doctoral project focuses on creating a guide for mental health professionals to help heterosexual HIV/AIDS infected Latinos better cope with this illness from a psychosocial perspective. Milagros was born and raised in Lima, Peru and immigrated to the United States when she was 13 years old. She hopes some day to serve as a bridge of resources between the United States and Peru. Milagros is a student member of the American Psychological Association (APA), and a student board member of California Latino Psychological Association (CLPA).
