Vargas-Paredes, Ph.D., LMFT Dr. Vargas-Paredes is a Staff Psychologist and Sexual Assault Specialist at UCLA Counseling and Psychological Services. She is also a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Dr. Vargas-Paredes is a Certified Sexual Assault Counselor and Certified Domestic Violence Counselor. She is also a Board Certified Professional Counselor with the American Psychotherapy Association. Dr. Vargas-Paredes received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Multicultural Community Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, Los Angeles (APA-accredited). Her clinical training includes a practicum placement at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Dual Diagnosis Treatment Program, a predoctoral internship at CSUDH Student Health and Psychological Services and an APA-accredited predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at UCLA Counseling and Psychological Services. Dr. Vargas-Paredes graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a B.A. in Psychology and Social Behavior and another in Sociology. She also received an M.S. in Counseling from California State University, Fullerton. Dr. Vargas-Paredes has provided individual, child, family, and group psychotherapy for the past eleven years. She has worked with university students, adults with psychiatric and substance abuse disorders, survivors of domestic violence, abused and neglected children, at a cancer foundation with bereaved children, and with children and families participating in Head Start. Her areas of interest include sexual assault, domestic violence, disordered eating, mood disorders, women’s issues, Latino mental health, multicultural and diversity issues, first-generation university students, and students of color in higher education. Dr. Vargas-Paredes is involved in the following professional organizations: the American Psychological Association (APA), the California Psychological Association (CPA), the National Latino Psychological Association (NLPA), the California Latino Psychological Association (CLPA), the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT). Dr. Vargas-Paredes is also a founding member and former Chair of the Latino Student Psychological Association (LSPA) at Alliant International University, Los Angeles.
