¡Bienvenidos! Welcome!

¡Bienvenidos a CLPA! We are very excited to offer an association that has been long in the making. Founded in 2003, CLPA’s primary role is to advocate for and serve the mental health needs of the Latino community by addressing clinical, training, research and academic issues related to Latino Psychology. As a young association strongly dedicated to social justice issues, we welcome all mental health providers interested in Latino Psychology.

The ever-changing landscape of the United States is now seeing Latinos as the largest and fastest growing underrepresented group at 42.7 million (Census Bureau, 2006), and increasingly the field of psychology is challenged to meet our mental health needs. Through CLPA’s effort in the past several years, we have made significant collaborations with local, state, and national associations, including the National Latina/o Psychological Association, the California Psychological Association, and various Universities. Therefore, CLPA is well positioned to positively impact mental health services in the Latino community.

CLPA’s activities these early years have included gaining non-profit status, publishing our newsletter, developing the website, having prominent student representation on the Board, supporting and advocating for various issues related to the Latino community, and organizing the first CLPA conference in collaboration with California State University Fullerton.

We welcome your membership and involvement. One of the main benefits for you as a member is building networks with other mental health professionals interested in Latino Psychology. Browse through our website and brochure and feel free to email me at omejia@fullerton.edu and share your ideas about ways to get involved.

Sinceramente,

Olga L. Mejía, PhD
CLPA President
